Corporate Social Responsibility at CoolMed

At CoolMed we know just how important it is to follow best working practices to support our employees, while also ensuring we engage and support the wider community.

Our approach to corporate social responsibility (CSR) is to contribute to the sustainable development of society and the wider environment through participating in sincere and fair business activities.

Core areas of our recent CSR endeavours include a variety of elements:

Charitable Work

We undertake a number of company-wide initiatives and regular donations to recognised charities – in particular, Cool Earth.

We’ve always had a passion for protecting the environment. By partnering with Cool Earth, we work to further educate our team on important environmental issues such as climate change and deforestation.

Cool Earth is a non-profit organisation that works alongside rainforest communities to halt the destruction of their habitats. To do this, Cool Earth don’t buy land or create reserves. Instead, they put local people back in control of their forests by creating strong, self-determining communities.

For us, Cool Earth is the perfect charity partner. It reflects the love that we have for the environment by ensuring we are contributing to a cause that addresses, what we know to be an important factor in halting climate change – protecting established rainforests.

Becoming Carbon Neutral

To coincide with our charitable work for Cool Earth, we’re currently in the process of becoming a carbon neutral company certified by Earthly. This demonstrates our determination and commitment to removing as much carbon from our operations as possible.

Earthly is the most effective way for businesses to invest in the fight against climate change. Their technology monitors carbon and ecosystem health in order develop a unique ‘climate resilience’ grade, so businesses like us can invest in projects that will continue to deliver value as the climate changes.

Improved Sustainability

As an electrical equipment supplier, we’re pleased to comply with the WEEE directive. The aims of the directive are to minimise the amount of material entering the electrical waste stream within Europe and provide funding for treatment facilities, in order to maximise recovery and recycling.

The UK regulations require businesses to:

  • Minimise waste arising from their electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) products and promote their reuse.
  • Ensure the waste products are treated correctly and meet recovery and recycling targets for the waste materials.
  • Design products by reducing material use and enhancing reusability and recyclability.

As part of our sustainability drive, we’ve also taken action to drastically reduce our packaging waste. To do this we’ve incorporated recyclable cardboard into our packaging, eliminated unfavourable materials such as plastic wherever possible, and ensured the materials we use are sourced responsibly.

Commitment to our Employees

People matter. We appreciate and celebrate the fact that all our employees are different, and we respond to that. To bring out the best in our people, we are committed to contributing to their development. We work to be a socially responsible employer by:

  • Offering a healthy and flexible work environment that enhances the wellbeing of our employees.
    • Our work model is designed to accommodate changes in employees’ personal and professional lives as we understand that balancing family and a career is critical to success.
  • Promoting diversity, equal opportunities and the employability of our teams.
  • Empowering our employees to develop their own CSR skills.
